21/12/10 Retreaded winter tyres: safe, cost-saving and environmentally friendly road transport
Cold temperatures, snow and ice can spell big trouble for road safety. To this extent, highlights Airp (Italian Tyre Retreaders Association), it becomes very important to ensure that all motor vehicles are made roadworthy, starting with tyres.
30/11/10 Why not choose retreaded winter tyres?
Low temperatures, as well as wet or snow-covered roads can put drivers in serious jeopardy in winter. Even apparently clear roads should not be underrated. Actually, when temperatures start dropping, vehicles must be fitted to best tackle severe climate changes, starting with tyres.
02/11/10 Green economy records for the Italian tyre retreading industry
32,997 tons of used tyres kept out of the environment and sent to the retread industry instead, 32,544 tons of raw materials saved, energy savings of 114 million liters of oil and equivalent products, 222 million Euros saved by final users, for a retreaded tyre is definitely cheaper than a new one. These are the main figures reported in Italy’s 2009 ecological and economic balance sheet for tyre retreading by Airp (Italian Tyre Retreaders Association).
06/07/10 Trucks: up to 98% reduction in harmful emissions
88% reduction in carbon monoxide emissions, hydrocarbon emissions limited by as much as 95%, 97% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions and, last but not least, up to 98% reduction in particulates.
24/06/10 Minerals represent over one third of road freight
Minerals (raw or artificial) were the most commonly carried freight in Italy in 2009, representing 35.14% of all the goods moving on rubber.
11/05/10 The number of cars on Italy's roads has increased (+4,92%) over the past five years
The number of cars in Italy has increased by 4,92% over the past five years, jumping from 34,636.594 units in 2005 to 36,339.405 units in 2009.
02/02/10 EUR 155 million could be saved annually
Further savings of EUR 155 million per year, in addition to 25,713 tons of raw materials saved and 87 liters of oil slashed to cut domestic energy bills, as well as 24,873 tons of used tyres kept out of the environment. These additional savings could be achieved in Italy if retreads were employed on trucks as widely as they are in the U.S. According to Airp (Italian Tyre Retreaders Association) figures, only 32% of the spare tyres purchased in Italy are retreads, versus 50% in the U.S.
